With the introduction of the new novel, share in your blog what attracted you to this novel. After reading the first few pages, what are your initial thoughts about the book? Slow start? Jumps right in? Share your first impressions.
Im reading A thousand splendid suns and starting off reading the first chapter it was kind of difficult to read because in the book the author uses the character's language. Other than that the characters are very very interesting and the story line so far is confusing but good at the same time
ReplyDeleteSounds like my book at first it is hard to understand things because of the language but then you can catch on and start to understand it.
DeleteI totally agree, the book started out very confusing in chapter one. The story got very exciting and interesting after the first chapter!
DeleteI am also reading this book, and I also think it is really confusing in the first few chapters. It is also confusing when the author uses the different languages that they speak.
DeleteI am reading I am Malala and it also uses some different language. It is very confusing also but after you start to figure it out it is pretty interesting.
Deletei agree with you the book was a little hard to understand at the beginning but as i kept reading a few more things started making sense.
DeleteI am also reading that book and i completely agree. I was very confused at the begging of the book but then it got better and easier to understand. I think this book is very interesting and i hope it only gets better from here.
DeleteI'm reading I am Malala and when it started off it was interesting because it talked about how she was shot on the bus. After this, it was just a slow process and summary talking about characters, events, and other things happening. Now that I am around page 100, it is getting easier for me to understand, but there are still parts where I have to look at it and reread it.
ReplyDeleteI hate books that have the climax in the very beginning of the book and slowly work there way down. The theme of your book sounds very interesting though.
DeleteI totally agree that the first few pages were super interesting but now that I am further in the book it gets more boring. I hope the book gets more thrilling to read. It is also hard for me to keep track of all of the characters and family members Malala introduces to the story. I hope it will all make sense in the end.
DeleteI also find myself having to go back and reread things for better understanding. The plot line gets confusing when she jumps around from different topics.
DeleteI totally agree with you that the book was really interesting at the beginning and then it really slowed down. I also find myself going back to reread things to make sure I understand things completely.
DeleteI also agree the book is very slow right now but I am glad it is going to pick up soon.
Deletei agree that Malala was very interesting towards the beginning with telling the reader how she was shot but then started to slow down after that.
Deletei hate books that start off like that, but what i do know now is that books like that have a great ending .
DeleteI am reading Night by Elie Wiesel. My first initial thoughts were the book was slow and hard to get into but after the first chapter the book starts getting better because they start going into the concentration camps and such. And how the jews were being treated.
ReplyDeleteI think most of these books are a struggle at the start but then it starts to get really good!
DeleteMy book is different. it jumps right into the plot with little intoduction.
DeleteI also thought that the book was going to be slow and boring but after the first chapter i was floored on how detailed and brutal it was, definitely going to be a good book to read this month
DeleteI am reading I Am Malala starting the book it was slow but still interesting learning about her life and her family. It got really interesting when she started taking about the shooting and the events leading up to that day. I'm curious to see what else her story has to tell us.
ReplyDeleteI also thing that the description of the day Malala got shot in the face was the most interesting part of the book so far. I really hope we will get some information about how she made her way up again after this dramatic event. I would love to find out how she experienced the moment when she got the Nobel peace prize as youngest recipient ever. I always thought her story was super inspirational.
DeleteI do agree that the description of the day Malala got shot was very interesting and then it just kind of died down. I can't wait to see what the rest of the book is about.
DeleteI am reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns" and the first chapter was very confusing and there was many words in Afghani that were confusing. Once I got past the second chapter I was hooked to the book. My book jumped right in after getting the initial point of what is going on and who is everyone. After reading the end of chapter four my jaw dropped. My first impressions were that this book was harder than i thought in the first chapter, but after that it become easier to read and very exciting.
ReplyDeleteI am also reading this book and yes it was really hard to comprehend what was all happening and some parts were confusing but Nana killed herself by hanging herself from a tree. After this happened I wanted to keep reading.
DeleteI am reading "I am Malala" by Malala Yousafzai. I have always wanted to read this book, so I was excited to read this novel in this class. I thought Malala's story is very inspirational and interesting at the same time. I really enjoyed reading the first few chapter of the book, Malala did a really good job describing how her life changed after she got shot in the head by the Taliban on her way to school. After she describes this dramatic event in her life, she talks a lot about the past, her family, and their traditions. In my opinion that is a bit too much detail. But it is possible that all of this information will make more sense later in the book. I hope the book gets a bit more exciting, because i expected to be interesting and fascinating to read. So far I like the book but I hope it gets more thrilling.
ReplyDeleteI was also very excited to read this book I heard of Malala before and I also think she is very inspirational. I also agree that she uses way too much detail than I think is necessary but hopefully it makes sense later.
DeleteI agree with you. I hope the book starts to get more interesting. I love to hear about what Malala's experience through all of this was like.
DeleteWith how you described this book and how the story, itself, is structured, I agree with you in liking this book.
DeleteAlong way gone by Ishmael Beah, I don't like this book right now but it might change and become better over time. The one thing i like about the book so far is the details that it gives. i hope that the book picks up and becomes a better read.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with you i like this book it gives good examples and details
DeleteI agree that the book right now is not very good because it is kind of slow, but I also like how it gives many details.
DeleteMy book was the same way. I really didn't like the book right away but it got a lot better further on into the book.
DeleteI am reading the book A Long way Gone and as of right now the book has yet to interest me. The book seemed to jump right into the details right away it didn't really start off very easy going. The book seems to be a interesting book, but i feel i just haven't quite got into reading this book, but Im sure it will start to catch my attention.
ReplyDeleteyeah some books are just hard to get into, but i'm sure it will get better.
Deletei agree. the book starts off boring and i too hope it gets better.
DeleteI agree I wasn't very interested in the book in the beginning but it started getting more into detail throughout the book.
Deletekeep reading the book it gets a whole lot more interesting as you keep reading. I felt the same way the first 2 or three chapters. .
DeleteI agrees that at first the book is not very interesting. As it moves along thought it gets more interesting with more details.
DeleteI am reading the book A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. Its kind of difficult in the beginning because some of the words were in their language, Afghani. I thought the book was going to be a lot harder because its such a long book, but the chapters are so short and it makes the book go by quickly. Our book jumps right into the story and it made it interesting to keep reading and not put it down.
ReplyDeleteI am also reading A Thousand Splendid Suns, and I think the book started off hard and confusing. This book has a lot of like drama and suspense, and I also want to keep reading.
DeleteI wanted to read this book, it sounded like a good book while reading the summary. I would like to read this book in the future.
DeleteI can relate since my book's beginning, Night, is just like how you described your beginning with the foreign words and the meaning of them. Nevertheless, I'm sure your book will be irresistible with how you described it.
DeleteIm reading the book Night by Elie Wiesel, and my initial thoughts were kind of mixed because the book started out really slow and hard to get into, but after the first few pages it started to pick up and get interesting with the foreign jews being expelled, and the rest of the jews being transported to concentration camps.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that the book was very slow and not very interesting at first but the book gets a lot better a few chapters in.
DeleteMy new novel is Night by Elie Wiesel. It was a hard choice, but I chose Night because I've always been interested in the subject of the Holocaust during World War II. Along with this, I'm wanting to read similar books like Schindler's Ark and The Pianist. I've known a little about the novel and read a portion of it during English II. When I began reading the book, I found it not very slow but a little complicated to understand. So complicated, I wrote down a list of Jewish terms I found in the book, so that I wouldn't get confused later on. After a few pages, the book jumps right into action with how Elie and his family's lives being spiraling down by the Nazis. My first impression of the novel was a little terrifying by what Elie has experienced around him. Lets just say I, dearly, hope none of the events in this novel ever happen again.
ReplyDeleteI agree as well and share your sentiment about the events in this book
DeleteI 100% agree with you and this book was one i was interested in as well.
DeleteI wasn't particularly attracted to the book Night, but i thought it was good. It jumped right in to the story and has been a great story.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about it jumping right in, page 32 and Elie is already talking about childrens ashes raining down on them!!!
DeleteI agree, the book seemed to get interesting right from the start, despite it being a little slow. I think this is going to be a great story by the end of it
DeleteI was hoping to read "Night" but i got stuck with my second choice, hope to hear more about this book.
DeleteA long way gone doesnt have much of an introduction. It just jumps right into the plot. it starts off with the main character and his friends walking to a different town to rap.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you it doesnt really tell us much of where there at or anything
DeleteI hope this book becomes more interesting. Keep up the good work Austin!
DeleteI have the same thoughts on this book it doesn't really explain anything, but its getting better then when the book first started. If you aint gonna send it hard don't send it all.
DeleteI am reading the book I am Malala by Malala Yousafzai. I was attracted to this novel because of the summaries and online reviews said it was interesting. The first chapter was easy to follow because she just talked about her and her life story. After that, I got really confused with all the different topics she talked about. It jumps around from her fathers life to just talking about her country in general. I am at the end of part one and it is starting to make more sense now though with the way she talks.
ReplyDeleteI am reading A Long Way Gone my thoughts are it is pretty interesting and graphic. It gives a good slow start at the beginning and doesnt jump right into the story.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book A Long Way gone by Ishmael Beah. The book seemed interesting because it is about a boy who is trying to survive during a war. The book jumps right in to the first time he was affected by the war, and I like that he includes many details so you are able to picture what is going on. I do not like that the book is kind of slow right now because he is just wondering around in search of somewhere safe.
ReplyDeleteSounds kinda interesting Noah. Does this war have a name? I hope the book beco,es more appealing.
DeleteI agree with you Noah. This book started off slow but it gets better as you read on. The reason i chose this book because it just seem interesting running away from rebels and escape from the rebels.
DeleteI agrees that it jumps right in but it is also very slow. It caught my attention right quiet fast with the details that are put into the stories.
DeleteI am reading the book I am Malala. At first the book was really interesting as she was telling the story about how she was shot in the head. After the first chapter it got kind of confusing and hard to understand. I had to go back and reread some things that I did not understand. The first few chapters had a lot of information about her family background and about the town she lives in. Now that I am farther into the book, it is getting a little easier to read and understand the things she is telling us about.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you I also had a hard time in the beginning of the chapters. I didn't fully understand what was going on and why we needed to know about her dad and his family and how malalas mom had to go to school but then had to drop out that same year, I also had a hard time understanding who was who and what person was related to malala now that I am farther in the book it is a lot easier to understand.
DeleteI agree with you our book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, it starts off really confusing and hard to understand but then it get interesting by the Nana killing herself. I really got hooked into the book after that happened.
DeleteI felt the some way when I started to read this. The first chapter was for sure very interesting, but then I started to get a little confused. I had to go back and reread and then it made more sense to me.
DeleteI felt the same thing when I started my book. I think all of these books are a little difficult but once you get into it it gets better. After i've been reading my book for awhile it is interesting and fun to read.
DeleteI feel the same way when I started A Thousand Splendid Sons, it was really confusing at the beginning but once you get into it gets better. I am enjoying my book and it is so suspenseful and keeps me hooked.
DeleteThe novel I am reading is Night by Eliezer Wiesel, the book had a slow and kind of jumpy start in it in my opinion. It when through about three or four years in the first chapter and went over the most random things. But once it started talking about the transportation of the Jew and when the Germans rolled into the city is when things got interesting and easier to understand. I am glad i got this book because it was one i have actually wanted to read and see what is on the pages.
ReplyDeleteit sounds like a every interesting book so far.
DeleteYou explained the beginning of the book pretty well, and I felt the same way. Once we got past the introduction it started to pick up and get pretty interesting
DeleteThis book is very interesting for me as well as they are transporting the Jews, I agree this book is interesting.
DeleteI chose to read I am Malala. I was very excited to read this book as soon as I found out we had the option to read it. I have heard of the main character before and herd of what had happened to her, why it happened, and how she reacted to it. I hoped to learn more about her from this book and I already have in the first few chapters. So far in the first few chapters of the book has had a lot of explaining of her family, her culture, and the history of Pakistan. She gives so much detail it is hard to comprehend all at once. I have to take lots notes and sometimes even re-read parts. Other wise I really like it and I am learning a lot from it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you I also thought that the first few chapters were hard to understand once I got into chapters I believe 7 and 8 I was able to understand it all better and kind of
Deletefigure out who was who.
I reading the book Night By Elie Wiesel. When I started reading i could stop reading i just wanted to know what was going to happen next. i admire hoe Mr. Wiesel goes through and tells about the hardest time in his life. If half the things that happens to him happened to me i would want to forget everything that happened.
ReplyDeleteMy book was different at the beginning because it was boring at first but gradually got better as I read more. At least your enjoying Night because that was my second choice.
DeleteI was given the book Night for my second book and the novel starts off well and i haven't reached a bad spot yet. Night is very detailed and the author almost puts you there in the setting with him, its a short book but the material is hard to read because its such a gruesome book. Its going to be hard to write about whats happening in the book due to the authors GREAT detail in explaining his life in camp.
ReplyDeleteNight was my first choice to read, so I am curious whether you like the book or not.
Deletenight was my second choice. I'm curious what you think of the book because I may want to read it in the future.
DeleteI hope you like this book, I am also reading Night and so far I cant wait to read
DeleteI am reading A Long Way Gone and what attracted me to read this book was reading the summary of it, when I started reading the book I wasn't really interested in the book right away because not much was happening and it was somewhat hard to follow along. As I got more into the book I was getting more into it and kept wanting to read more. The author started getting into more detail about was happening in the war and with the rebels.
ReplyDeletethat sounds a little like I Am Malala but the other way around it was fast paced and was really interesting then slowed down.
DeleteI felt the same way you did at the start of the book. It jumped right into the story he was going to tell and want us to know about. Later on the book did pick up, I still think it should get more interesting. He does describe a lot of detailed scenes throughout the start of the book which are pretty gruesome.
Deletewhat attracted me to, " a long way gone" was the fact you do not hear a lot about what child soldiers go through and I was curious. so far it is action packed and I am liking it a lot more than expected. I hope the book keeps up it's interesting pace.
ReplyDeleteI am reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. The first few chapters were very confusing, it is also confusing when they speak the different languages. I thought this book was going to be harder because of the length and all of the different characters. I like this book because it has a lot of drama and suspense, which makes me not want to put the book down. I also like the shorter chapters because it is like straight to the point.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that the other language is hard to understand at times. Now that it is easier to understand the book it is becoming a good book and is interesting.
DeleteAfter reading the first few pages of I am Malala I was very confused it went from talking about her life to talking about her dads life back to her younger child hood and then started talking about her moms life and how she grew up without going to school. once i got to chapter 10 and 11 it was a lot easier to understand and a lot more interesting.
ReplyDeleteI am Malala seemed a bit confusing to me. But honestly hope to read it sometime. The book I am reading also started really slow and confusing, but it's picking up. I hope your book becomes even more interesting!
DeleteI am reading a lot way gone. so far in the book they move from village to village trying to stay away from th gangs and try not to get killed. i hope the book gets better. not that far in the book yet.
ReplyDeletei am also reading along gone at first it was boring and hard to read and i didnt like it at first but im beginning ro like it more now.

DeleteI am reading a Long way gone not a lot way guy but a long way gone is getting to be a pretty good book but id like to learn what a lot way gone. Keep up the good work
DeleteI am reading Night by Elie Wiesel, this book so far is a great novel. The beginning of the book was kinda hard to keep reading on although this book pulls your attention as the book keeps getting better. I am interested hearing from people who had lived through the concentration camps. So far I cant wait to read on and hear Elies' story and how they managed to live.
ReplyDeleteI am reading A Long Way Gone, the reason I am reading this book is because it had guns on the front page so it seemed like it was going to be a good read. The book seemed to have slow start because they just talked about who they are and where they lived. all in all it seems like a good book
ReplyDeletei am also reading along way gone this was my second chose but im beginning to like it
DeleteReading through the biography of Ishmael Beah really attracted me towards the book, A long way gone. The book itself was going to talk about war, I have always been interested in war books as well as in history. I became interested when the biography explained that Ishmael Beah was only thirteen years old when he was forced to become a child soldier during the civil war. As I read through the first few pages, the book jumped right into war, and what it is like to be in a war zone. I don't really like the constant tone he uses. The book is going pretty slow right now, I hope it becomes more interesting as I keep reading. I'm interested in seeing how it all changes.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book A Thousand Splendid Sons and the start of the book is confusing. They just jump right in the story and do not explain much. As you keep reading you start to understand the story more and get more background information. Once you know more it is easier to start to understand the story more, and that makes more of an easier read. Now that I am understanding the book more I am starting to enjoy the story.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book A Thousand Splendid Suns and in the beginning of the book it was sort of hard to understand but once you kept reading you would start to understand more. The book kind of starts out slow but it seems to be picking up the more you read.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book A thousand Splendid Suns. The first few chapters it was hard to understand and know what was going on, but after awhile it was easy and a fun read. I thought I would like this book because it was about a girl and her relationships and I thought it would be similar to my life, but I can not relate as much as I thought I would be able to. I liked this book almost right away. After it got less confusing and easy to understand it jumped right into things and got interesting to read.
