The endings of Chinese Handcuffs, Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, Running Loose, and Stotan! leave the reader with some unanswered questions. Chris Crutcher assumes the reader knows the ending, but he doesn't come out and say it. You take control and write the overview of one more chapter to these books. If there was one last chapter, what would it be about. How would you tie up loose ends, if you were the author?
I thought the book was going to end so differently. I thought someone like Jen was going to end up killing herself to be like Preston and because of all the things shes been going through her life. If there was another chapter in the book, I feel like it would be like Jens and Dillion talking about her stepdad and if they made the right decision of turning him in or not.
ReplyDeleteI also thought that Jen or Dillon were going to end up killing themselves after what both of them had been through. I do think that if there was another chapter in the book that it would mainly deal with T.B. because that was not an ending anyone really expected, and it was not very exciting.
DeleteI like your idea for the last chapter. I also thought the book would have ended way differently. There are still so many questions unanswered. I agree that the focus in last chapter would be on TB and his life after he left Jennifer's family. I would have liked to find out more about how TB got arrested, because I think he really deserves revenge.

DeleteThe end of Running Loose ended kind of abruptly. On the second last page they were talking about Louie and his graduation, and on the last page, tried to describe a little of what happened the week following his graduation. There wasn't any descriptions of what happened to Louie after he graduated, if he went on to a college with an athletic scholarship, or if he kept working at the station for his dad, or anything like that. If there was another chapter in the book, I think it would be about what Louie did with his life after he graduated, and if he ever managed to overcome Becky and found someone else, or not

DeleteI like your idea for the last chapter. I would also be interested in how TB got arrested and how he finally got the revenge for the horrible things he did to Jennifer and family. I agree that the last chapter should be about Dillon and Jennifer as well. After everything they went through, it would be nice to find out if they are finally happy.

It would go through more detail about him being arrested. it would also go through maybe the trial for T.B. and talk about all the charges he is getting. After the trial I i would talk about Jen's life and how she is going through life without being abused all the time. also what Dillon Life has ended up to be as a runner

DeleteHow TB got arrested and the court case and how he goes to jail and that could make the book end a little better. Then they could put how shes doing in life after the court trial. Then what Dillions doing and if his life has changed at all.

DeleteIn my book, Chinese Handcuffs, the ending surprised me a lot. I thought something major would happen towards the end, because in the middle a lot of bad things were happening. I thought Dillon wouldn't be able to save Jen from hurting herself in the end. I thought that maybe there would be a chapter with Jen and TB getting into a fight more and Dillon trying to help. I also thought that maybe something major with Dillon would happen.

I did not think Dillon was going to be able to save Jen either because she seemed so determined to do it, and she was putting up a fight against him for the longest time. I wish there was another chapter with fight between T.B. and Jen because it kind of just ended and T.B. just disappeared.

DeleteIf i was the author i would have shown Louis a few years later, showing how he was doing better. I would have had him going to collage for track and i would have carter therewith him for football. Louis would have had a new girlfriend and he would be happy.

ReplyDeleteThe ending of Running Loose wasn't really a surprise to me, I felt like it ended in a good way and didn't leave me with super important questions. But I still am curious about what will happen after Jasper sees the plaque broken again and what Louis, Carter and Madison are going to be doing now, also kind of want to know what is going to happen to Boomer as well. But I don't think there would need to be another chapter cause i like how the book ended.

DeleteThe end of Running Loose was defiantly a good one but there still were some unanswered questions. If I could write another chapter to end this book I would talk about what happen to Louie. I'd talk about if he ever went to college if he got any scholarships or maybe he just worked with Norm. I may have also talked about if Carter and Louie still stayed in touch and if Louie ever moved on and found someone new.

DeleteI also agree with you. I never thought about seeing if Carter and Louie stay in touch or not, but is something to think about. I would hope they stay in touch because Carter was such a good friend to Louie and Louie appreciated him so much as a friend.
DeleteIt would be nice if Carter and Louie ended up going to the same college together. I could also see Louie staying back from college to help Norm. Either way, I bet Norm would support his decision.

DeleteIn my book, Chinese Handcuffs, the ending was not like I expected it to be at all. I thought it was going to be much harder for them to get rid of T.B. and that they were going to have to do major things to get rid of him. I also thought Jen was going to try to hurt herself again, but this time when nobody else was around to stop her. If there was another chapter in the book I think it would be about T.B. coming back and someone hurting him or him getting into serious trouble. I also think that something major would happen in both Jen and Dillon's life because they were both important characters throughout the whole story and they didn't really have a big ending.

DeleteThe ending of my book, Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, was very suprising. I thought the end of the book was going to be completely different. I think the book should have ended with an explanation between what happens next. For example, where Sarah goes next, what is Virgil Byrnes fate, what did Jody say when she ran off to talk to Mark after apologizing to the class, what happened between Eric and Jody, there are so many unanswered questions. I think the last chapter should have ended with a Sarah confronting her dad about burning her when she was younger. That plot twist would have kept everyone wanting more.

DeleteThe ending of Running Loose just left me hanging their. I just hated it how Chris Cruthcher dose not have a good or bad ending just leaves the reader hanging in space wondering what else happens. I would say about Louie going back again and him smashing up the plaque again. Then I would say something if Louie dose get catch by Jasper or not. Also I would add what Louie plans on doing for the rest of his life, and Carter playing college ball. I also would add something about if Louie meets another girl or not. That's what i would write for the last chapter of Running Loose.
ReplyDeleteI also thought it left me hanging. It would be very interesting to know if he gets in trouble or gets another girlfriend. I also wrote that I would add what Louie was going to do with the rest of his life because I think that is mostly what everybody wants to know.

DeleteI believe the last chapter should also include all the people who've helped him throughout the difficult times, such as Carter and his parents. I agree the last chapter should also include what Louie plans on doing for the rest of his life.
DeleteI also did not like how Chris Crutcher left us at the end of the book. I also agree with Rachel, I want to know if Jasper catches Louie for breaking the plaque out of the cement the second time. Especially because it said that Jasper camped out at the school in his office with a loaded .22 waiting for Louie to come back.

DeleteI think the ending of Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes was kind of weird in a way. It ended peacefully where I thought some big event would of happened. I wasn't really disappointed in the ending but I thought they would mention more about Virgil Byrnes. Towards the ending they didn't really talk about where Virgil ended up or how he was doing. The book was a great read and I am very pleased with how the book kept my attention the whole time. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read a story that keeps them on their toes!!
ReplyDeleteMy book ended the same way, there were many things that were building up that i thought were going to blow up and they did not. There were many different ups and downs throughout my book as well and never knew what was going to happen. My book and yours sound like very good books that if people get the chance they should read them.
DeleteTo be honest I didn't really like the ending of the book "Chinese Handcuffs" by Chris Crutcher. I thought it wasn't detailed enough and there were still so many questions unanswered. I would change the epilogue, so the reader would find out more about how TB got arrested. I feel like there should be way more detail about how and when TB was arrested in Florida. He deserves revenge for all the things he did to Jennifer and her family. So my last chapter would be about the day TB got arrested and how Dillon and Jennifer would find out about it. I also think this story deserves a happy ending. So Dillon and Jennifer are dating in the end. The really last paragraph of the book should be about Dillon taking part in the Iron man in Hawaii. So there would be a connection to the prologue.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that there was just so many things that were brought up but we never got the answers too. TB deserves to be punished for what he did and with that ending he does not end up getting what he deserved to get. I wish they would have gave us more of a happy ending.

DeleteI would have to say that there must be a reasoning of why Chris Crutcher would have left out details at the end of Chinese Handcuffs. Consider or not if the book's ending would have been better with more details.
DeleteThe ending of the book "Running Loose" was not how I expected it. It randomly ended and left out a lot of things unanswered. If I was the author I would have definitely wrote another chapter to tie everything together and not leave the reader not knowing what happens next. If I wrote another chapter I would have Louie being able to talk to Becky through a median, and I would also have Louie graduating high school and moving on to college to prove to Mr. Jasper and Mr. Lednecky that he can do something with his life and that he is not a bad example to the rest of the students. I would also have Boomer finally get in trouble for everything he has done, and just have everything fall into place for Louie.

I would have also liked to have heard Louie explain how everything turned the right way for him and that his life became a success. After all he had just done what he thought was the correct.

DeleteThe end of my book, Running Loose, seemed very rushed. In just a couple pages, everyone graduated and you never hear what happens to all the characters. I want to see what Louie does with the hammer and if he does go back to the plague again, will Jasper catch him. I would create a second book to follow this one to show all the characters next steps in life. I would like to see Louie go on to college with a scholarship for track. I would also assume that Carter and Boomer would go on to play football at the next level. Louie would probably and eventually move on from Becky and meet a new girl too.

DeleteReading through the last chapter of Running Loose brought me to realize the book was not coming to an end, what was suppose to happen after is not explained. He kind of just leaves the reader wondering what happened to Louie's life and career. I really expected Louie to have explained his life after high school and where he went off too next. Maybe Louie ended up in a good college, he keeps his two jobs, and becomes prepared for whats to come after him. The things he went through really made me think that he would get over every obstacle that was thrown at him. And maybe at the end he does find someone who can be with him for the rest of his life.

In the next chapter, I think it would be about Louie breaking the plaque out of the cement the school put next to a tree they had just planted for Becky Sanders. He did not like that Jasper had singed it and only had her yearbook stats on it. And I think it would also have Louie going to college and talk about if he had received any scholarships for sports. This chapter would also have more of Boomer in it, and if Carter and Boomer fought. After Becky's funeral, Boomer really did not talk or be mean to Louie anymore.

I thought it would be nice to have more of a conclusion from the book. the reader already knows what probably will happen at the end but I do want to know what happens at the end for sure. Like does Walker breakup with Devenee, will Jeff over come his disease, or O'Brain gets what coming to him. Those are things that should be mentioned if there was another chapter.
ReplyDeleteThe ending of my book, Chinese Handcuffs was not very good. It kind of left you hanging without telling you what happened to TB, Jen, and Dillon. If I was to add one more chapter I would write about TB going to court, and then finding out what he is being charged with. I would also have something happen to Dillon and Jen because it just leaves off not saying what is going on between them. I would also try to wrap up all the unanswered questions that I have about the book.

DeleteThe ending of the book in Chinese Handcuffs made me kind of mad because it leaves you hanging and does not really give you a for sure answer. It would be nice to know more about what happens to each character. Like Stacy with the baby and if Preston's family ever gets involved or what all happens with them. Also with Dillon's family and if they ever really become a family and become closer and more of a family. Or knowing more about Jen's and her family, does her team ever win the state title or what happens with that, or like does TB ever get caught or does he just get away. Also knowing what happens with Jen and her mom and knowing if they will ever have a good relationship. Those are all things that would be nice to know and add a good ending to the book because right now we are just left with nothing.

DeleteI was really upset with the ending of Chinese Handcuffs i thought it would of ended way different. if i would of wrote the ending of the book i would of went in to detail of what happened to T.B. i would of said what happened to Dillon, Jen, and Stacy's relation ship and how they went on with life. i would of wrote more about Dillon and jen. how they moved passed what happened. then how Dillon told his dad about prestons kid and then how stacy brings the kid over to meet his grandpa. i really wish Chris Crutcher would of ended his book in a different way.

I would continue the book with extending the part with T.B. and him getting caught raping Jenifer's Mom. I would have a chapter on the arrest and i wouldn't end the boom with Dillon going to a track meet. I would also probably try to mention something about Dillon and Jenifer talking about if he should of put the camera there and did something about it or if he should of just let it go.

DeleteIf I could write another chapter in Chinese Handcuffs I would talk about what happened to T.B. after Jen turned the tapes in to the police. I would also write about what happened to Jen in Dillon in the end and what they're relationship is like. I would like to go into more detail.

DeleteIn Chinese Handcuffs If there was one last chapter I would make it so it was set in the future. I would talk about what ended up happening to Jennifer's Step dad like if he got put in jail and for how long. I would talk about how Jennifer was doing like if she was going to therapy or not. I would also talk about If Dillon ever told his dad about Stacy's kid and if he ever met him or not. Last thing I would talk about is if Dillon and Jennifer ever ended up together. Chris Crutcher did sum up a lot of things in Dillons last letter to Preston but he also left a lot of unanswered questions and its driving me crazy.
ReplyDeleteSarah Bender- in one of the last chapters i would like it to either be about what had happened to TB and all the abuse he was putting not only Jennifer put her entire family threw. i would also like to know if they gave the baby-girl up for adoption and who she had went to.

DeleteIf I would have added an additional final chapter in Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, I would follow up on some of the unanswered questions. I do like it how Chris Crutcher left not so many open ends for us, but does give us the power to think of what the rest of the book is like. I would have said that Jody and Mark talked with each other after Mark's apology. That is, if he didn't talked with her beforehand, like Eric suggested. I would, also, include how Virgil Byrnes feels, especially after being beat up and the adoption. I may include more of how Carver stands with the case he's facing. No matter what, we can just think of the ending ourselves.

ReplyDeleteIf I had to write one more chapter to add to Chinese Handcuffs i would have written a trial case to write TB off into the sunset so that the readers got the ending they wanted and we would know exactly how the story ended. This chapter might even sum up the situation with Stacy and her child, and could also sum up the relationship with Dillon and Jen so that the reader also know that the main characters had their happily ever after.
ReplyDeleteIf i was to ever write another chapter for " Staying fat for sarah byrnes " I would clear up and verify certain things about the characters. Especially Virgil and Sarah herself. Overall the book was good and relate-able.
ReplyDeleteI thought that Running loose kind of ended a little early. I was wanting to know how Louie was doing after graduation, if he was helping his dad or playing a sport at a college or something. Other wise this book ended very well.
